In January 2024, I started taking courses at the University of North Texas to obtain a graduate certificate in Proposal Writing. I started out just trying it to see if I liked it, and I was quickly overwhelmed. I even considered dropping it. However, after the first week or so I found my footing and started to really enjoy the work. I finished the first 8-week course and then the next 8-week course. On this schedule, I would finish the certificate in December 2024.

At the beginning of the fall semester 2024, one of my professors contacted me and encouraged me to apply to the master's program for Professional and Technical Communication. I took the leap and wrote my personal statement to submit to the graduate admissions committee. I'm sharing it here.
